Girl With The Dragon Tattoo (American)	2011	92	19	(full review) - I love David Fincher movies, I loved this book series and I’d recommend this film (and the books) to anyone who doesn’t shy away from intense themes. It’s not a comfortable movie, but it’s extremely well crafted and executed. Anyone who clamors on about how the American version of this film was unnecessary due to the Swedish Noomi Rapace version fails to acknowledge that mainstream audiences won’t appreciate the complex plot if they have to follow along with the subtitles. I watched the Swedish version after having read the books and I still had trouble figuring out the different characters. Also, no offense to Ms Rapace, but she’s nowhere near as nice to look at as Rooney Mara. My suggestion: watch the David Fincher American version of the film after reading the book, and then if you get some time, check out the Swedish version (currently available on Netflix Instant).

If you see it come across the Cable TV guide and you think the premise sounds decent and you don’t have any problems with graphic violence or gratuitous nudity? Hit record and pencil in a little time to give it a chance. It’s not the best roller coaster ride in the park, but the line’s not likely to be long and you won’t totally regret riding it.

Some audiences will appreciate the film in its first viewing, but most will not. That's a failure of the director and producers. It could have been excellent with its top-notch cast.

If you do insist on watching All Saints Day, don’t rewatch the first one to prime the pump, it’ll only get you more depressed with how lackluster All Saints Day was. I didn’t rewatch the original before checking out ASD, and I’m glad I didn’t.
