Rob from GuysFilmQuest | 92 | - I love David Fincher movies, I loved this book series and I’d recommend this film (and the books) to anyone who doesn’t shy away from intense themes. It’s not a comfortable movie, but it’s extremely well crafted and executed. Anyone who clamors on about how the American version of this film was unnecessary due to the Swedish Noomi Rapace version fails to acknowledge that mainstream audiences won’t appreciate the complex plot if they have to follow along with the subtitles. I watched the Swedish version after having read the books and I still had trouble figuring out the different characters. Also, no offense to Ms Rapace, but she’s nowhere near as nice to look at as Rooney Mara. My suggestion: watch the David Fincher American version of the film after reading the book, and then if you get some time, check out the Swedish version (currently available on Netflix Instant). CinemaVisitor Erik | 85 | - The American remake of the cult classic book is stylish with superb soundtrack and great cast. However I still prefer the Swedish version. (full review) |

Bryan Lienesch | 84 | - I like my European thrillers sleek, provocative, and chock-full of entitled white people that turn out to be bats*** crazy. That's why the American go-round of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo delivers the goods. |

Dan O'Neill | 75 | - If you have seen the original, everything here may feel a bit familiar and old, but with Fincer’s version of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo you don’t know what to expect with some great tension, non-stop fast pace, and great performances from the whole cast, especially Mara who shows her total role commitment and deserves some type of recognition come February. Drezzy | 70 | - This was a downright amazing modern noir murder mystery until the inclusion of the novel's ending at the expense of the film's story. Not everything on the page works on the screen, and the final 15-20 minutes of the movie could have easily been edited into a 5-minute montage (or have some of it held back until the next film since the hype alone likely warranted a sequel) to make sure that the full flavor of the climax didn't dwindle away. What we're left with afterward is an epilogue that didn't need to be included in full, yet was, ruining the full experience. The ride there, however, was virtually perfect. |
