Traditionally, when an organization gives out yearly awards, it’s for the prior year. Unless you’re getting screeners and seeing more than a couple movies every week, it’s hard to have seen all the worthy films of a given year before March, when the traditional “award season” ends.
That’s why it made sense to us to give it an extra 12 months to give people extra time.
Here are the awards for the Best of 2020, with the nominees and winners as voted on by reviewers and regular movie viewers.

Closing Notes
Initially there were a few things we intended to do with this awards presentation that we didn’t end up doing. One of those things was a category for the “Most Disappointing Movie of 2020”, but we heard from enough of our voters that they weren’t interested in voicing an opinion in the category that we decided to just scrap it all together. While I still believe in the concept’s importance on the whole, I’m not sure I conveyed it correctly to get sufficient weigh-in. Perhaps it will return next year.
Another thing for next year is getting some write-ups / supporting opinions on the winners from the voters. I’d love to be able to present a bit more about the winners with the reasons why voters chose them. We didn’t get enough responses with those sorts of write-ups from voters this year, but perhaps next year.
Special thanks to all the voters who weighed in! I really appreciate everyone who was willing to lend their opinions to this voting. I tried to make it as easy for everyone as possible, and hopefully I can make some improvements on it for next year.
