Who doesn’t like a good set of yearly movie awards? Here at Half Popped Reviews, we want to do our own version, and since we don’t have the ability to send out screeners like the Academy Awards do, we can’t expect everyone to have seen all the top contenders for the year, so we’re going a slightly different route. For each award we’re giving out in the categories below, we want reviewers to do a write-up for their choice of a winner (and a runner up / honorable mention if they’d like) and why they made that choice. Then I, the Review Popper, will sort through everyones lists and come up with the overall winners for each. Those winners will be chosen either by the ones that get nominated the most by the reviewers, or through the persuasive means used by the reviewers.

Listed at the bottom of this page are the movies to pick from. If there’s a movie from 2013 which you’d like to include which isn’t on the list, let me know. The list can also be found on the 2013 Page.

Perhaps most importantly, the award categories are listed below. Try to pick a winner for each.

Why Participate?

When the award winners are announced here on Half Popped, each reviewer who participates will have their website and Twitter promoted in that article. There will be a list of participants in addition to reviewers being hyped when their choice for an award is featured.

Also, if you let us know when you write an article with your choices, we’ll promote that on Facebook, Twitter and in the award winner announcements themselves. You’ll get more hits to your site, and that’s a good thing.

Best Picture of 2013 – top film in terms of quality from all aspects (writing, performances, directing, visuals, etc)

Best Visuals of 2013 – which film provided the most beautiful scenes

Most Surprisingly Good Movie of 2013 – perhaps you had low expectations of a movie before you saw it, and then it surprised you with its quality or enjoyment

Most Disappointing Movie of 2013 – it seems as though whatever expectations you had for a movie were too high, and after seeing it, you felt let down
